Environment

Heath House provides a safe, secure and well resourced environment for the weekly boarders at Heathlands. We try to create a “home from home” so the children are actively involved in the planning and organisation of their environment. They choose colour schemes; furniture and activity areas are designed in response to pupil requests.

Boys and girls sleep on separate corridors on opposite sides of the building. Some have single bedrooms and some share with their friends. There are two common rooms where the boarders can mix and socialise, play games or watch TV and DVDs. They also have access to a domestic style kitchen where snacks can be made and cookery clubs are held.

Heath House pupils have access to a bright and cheerful craft area and a large activities hall. During the evenings they can also make use of a well stocked library and computers with supervised internet access.

Heathlands is set in extensive grounds providing ample opportunity for outdoor play. The sports field is used for various organised sports e.g. football and rounders, other pupils prefer relaxing around the patio area in the summer months.

The premises are well maintained through regular health and safety checks and a rolling programme of redecoration and refurbishment. Additionally major improvement projects such as the extension of communal areas and the installation of double glazed windows and doors have contributed to improved accommodation in recent years. Aids and adaptations ensuring deaf people’s access are fitted as standard e.g. visual fire alerts.
