Our topic is toys. The children have been learning about old and new toys, and exploring the differences between them. Today, we started to explore where toys come from by looking at the labels on them. The children discovered that most of the toys are made in China.
The children observed the eggs during the incubation stage and were excited to watch them slowly hatch. Once hatched, the chicks were carefully moved to another box. The children noticed that some chicks were yellow and some were ginger. They absolutely love stroking the fluffy chicks.
The children were given lots of words that were mixed up in sentences. They had to read the words and work out the correct order to make the sentences make sense. They were working out which groups the words belonged to and then remembering to follow the shape coding structure.
We used Bee-Bots to explore how to give clear instructions. The children were challenged to program the Bee-Bots to move from point A to G by inputting the correct sequence of directions. It was fun and engaging way for them to de slop their understanding of algorithms and logical thinking!
This week in English, the children explored the prefix un- and learned how it changes the meaning of root words. They enjoyed creating their own sentences using words like unhappy, unfair etc..
First we used cross stitch fabric to help us understand how to stitch in and out. Then we sewed two pieces of felt together
In Maths, Barn Owls have been learning about doubling. They explore what it means to be double a number and had lots of fun reinforcing their understanding through games. The children enjoyed using their knowledge to solve problems and spot doubles.
Welcome back after the holiday. We hope you have had a good break and we are looking forward to seeing the children’s holiday diaries and them telling us what they have been up to. The topic for this term is “World explores/Toys”. This term the children will have PE on Monday and Friday afternoons – Please ensure they bring their PE kit.. As the weather gets warmer children may wear summer dresses or shorts should they wish to.
