February fun!

This week in science we have been learning about the blood flow and how the heart is a muscle, which the children couldn’t believe! We looked at a diagram of the muscles in the body; they were shocked to know that we have over 600 muscles in our body!!! We did some stretches to try to get them to feel the different muscles.

In computing, the children created their quizzes and shared them a class of their choice. It was really lovely and the younger children loved it as much as Red Squirrels.

In maths, we have learning about equivalent fractions.

The children made some kindness card with lovely messages about their class mates.

We had Laura a professional belly dancer come in on Wednesday to teach the children some belly dancing – it was amazing and the children LOVED it!! I am sure they will be asking for a coin belt.

Homework has been given and needs to be back by Wednesday 25th February.

Wishing you all a safe and happy half term. 🙂

Having problems with the picture file format so will need to sort this before I can share photos.

Feeling good week!

This week, in science we made blood! This was to show the children that blood is made up of red blood cells, plasma and white blood cells. They really enjoyed this and hopefully can share why they are important.

Feeling good week had a theme of ‘belonging’. The children shared where they felt their belonged which was lovely. They created a belonging map.
They also went to visit Cookie the Rabbit.
We had a year 11 student come to our class and read a story. The children loved this and asked him lots of questions.

Last week of January!

Exciting week this week! We continued learning about the circulation system in Science. We learnt about the 3 main blood vessels: veins, arteries and capillaries. The children explained what their job is in the body.

In English, the children wrote diary entries about the families journey from Italy to New York. They wrote about their feelings and conditions of the ship (disgusting, dirty and VERY smelly!).

In History, we learnt about mummification. The children were horrified about the Egyptians removing a person’s organs! Especially, the brain through their nose!

In maths, we have started learning about fractions.

Second week back!

This week in English we have been reading our new book ‘The Matchbox Diary’ where a grandfather is showing his great granddaughter his very unique diary. Hopefully, the children have share with you how the grandfather recorded his memories from when he was growing up.

In maths we have started learning about length using CM, M and KM. Particularly looking at equivalent metres to kilometres.

In science we have been learning about circulation. We looked at the human body organs to see what they could remember from year 4 when they may have learnt about the digestive system. Vocabulary looked at ‘heart’ ‘lungs’ ‘kidneys’ ‘liver’ ‘blood vessels’, ‘veins’ and ‘red blood cells’.

We also looked at the social and hierarchy of the Ancient Egyptians. The children chose a job they would do in they lived in the Ancient Egyptian times.

New year, New Term – 2026!

First week in 2026 and it has been fantastic! Red Squirrels attitude has been terrific, and they have worked hard. Well done Red Squirrels!

We had a WOW afternoon linked to our new learning topic ‘Anicent Egyptians’ where the children had a look at Egyptian artefacts, paintings, Hieroglyphics and mummification. They created a mummy, completed puzzles, wrote their names in Egyptian lettering.

Also, this week, we have learned about dividing and multiplying by 10. As well as some multiplying two-digit numbers by 1.

Homework has been given and is due back by Wednesday please.

Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

Trip to Frank Barnes

The children had a great time visiting Frank Barnes school yesterday. They received ‘boat train tickets’ at the train station which they loved.
Frank Barnes had a whole school performance called Aladdin, which was was fantastic! The genie was inside a cochlea implant!
After, we stayed and ate lunch and the children played outside with children from other deaf schools. We saw some Christmas lights on route as well. The children behaviour was super there and back!! 🙂
