Drama
Arts Award is a range of unique qualifications that supports students to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with and take part in the wider arts world.
Students can choose Drama as a KS4 option.
Through progressing through the five levels of the Arts Award, students will:
- Discover the enjoyment of creating and participating in arts activities
- Experience arts events
- Develop creative and communication skills that are essential for success in 21st century life
- Explore the work of artists and craftspeople and gain insights into the professional arts world
- Gain experience and knowledge to help progress into further education and employment
Course Description
Students follow the Trinity College London Exam board Creative Arts Award in drama. The programme aims to advance and extend performance skills and supporting the development of students leading others and becoming arts leaders.
During the course, students will develop creative and communication skills, explore the work of performance artists and gain an insight into the professional world of acting and directing. They also gain experience and knowledge necessary to support the transition into further education and employment.
Students can achieve this award at Level 1, Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) or Level 3 (Level 3, Gold Award, is worth 16 points on the UCAS university tariff).

Skills workshop: Monologues, freeze frames, hot seating, breaking the fourth wall and realism.
Using the body in a dramatic context: body posture, gestures, eye movement, touch and the use of space |
Devising drama for a range of styles using a range of different stimulus such as photographs, news reports and TV. Using of rehearsal techniques.
Pre – production skills: directing, designing costume and props work. |
Exploring performance skills: gaining the ability to evaluate and analyse theatrical performances.
Working in a performing arts industry: what jobs do people have in the arts? Working towards the Shakespeare Schools Festival. |

Preparation for Shakespeare Festival.
Performing at Shakespeare festival. Theatre Evaluation: Thinking about ourselves as actors and how we can improve. Evaluation of theatre productions, what went well, would be better if? Identifying drama techniques being used. |
Preparation of portfolio for Arts Award.
Drama practitioners – learning about different ranges of theatre styles, their origins and why they are so affective such as: Epic Theatre, Invisible Theatre and Immersive. Leadership skills – facilitating drama workshops to peer groups using a range of techniques: conscience alley, fly on the wall and narration. |
