Introduction to Heath House
Heath House is the residential department of Heathlands School, providing weekly boarding for both primary and secondary aged pupils. It is set in beautiful grounds near the City centre of St Albans.
The pupils in residence (maximum 20) are organised into groups according to age and gender sharing common rooms, a study area, both shared and single bedrooms. A self contained kitchen is also available to help pupils develop a sense of responsibility and independence skills.
A four-night weekly boarding cycle operates. Pupils arrive on Monday mornings and return home on Friday afternoons. A few pupils board on a part time basis. Heath House provides care for pupils whose Special Educational Needs direct that residential provision be made available and the intake is from a wide catchment area, totalling approximately twenty local education authorities as well as Hertfordshire.
Pupils who board at Heathlands do so primarily to enable them to gain access to educational provision appropriate to their needs. The quality of the residential experience must therefore be of the same high standard as their education.
