Meet The Team
Sharon Heaney – British Sign Language Centre Co-ordinator
Sharon joined the BSL Centre team as the Centre Administrator in October 2021. Sharon’s role of administrator also encompasses exams officer, finance and exam invigilator.
Thomas McWhinney – Tutor of BSL
A new addition to the team, Thomas has a Level 6 certificate from Andrea’s School of BSL and is teaching from BSL Levels 1 to 3. Thomas enjoys BSL storytelling and poetry, and loves to meet Deaf people from all over the world.
Liz Thomas-Morton – Tutor of BSL
I have been teaching for over ten years to a range of learners, including adults, children, parents of deaf children, and school staff in training centres and mainstream school with deaf learning base. I learned about BSL teaching from my mum, who was a BSL tutor. I occasionally helped with her classes when I was younger, providing me with invaluable insights and hands-on experience. I hold a Level 6 Certificate in BSL and a Diploma in Education and Training. My passion lies in creating an inclusive learning environment where every learner can flourish and fully appreciate the richness of BSL.
Liz Wadsworth – Tutor of BSL
Liz studied and gained her Level 3 at Heathlands’ BSL Centre. She has spent the past ten years working in and with the Deaf Community, as a specialist teaching assistant, a care support worker and a communication support worker and brings those experiences with her to this new role. Liz is passionate about the joy to be found in life-long learning, both for herself and her students, and hopes she can share this with anyone who is taking their first steps into the world of learning BSL.
