Welcome to Weasels Class
Weasels have settled back into the routine of school and have been working hard in class. They have had the opportunity to take on additional duties and are in the process of thinking of applying to become year 6 prefects. This is something new that we are asking year 6 to think about and will support their understanding of being the oldest in the primary department and being good role models for the younger children.
This week we have been making predictions in English whilst reading ‘Matchbox diary’. This is a story about a grandfather sharing memories of his life through items kept in matchboxes. The class have been engaging well with the story so far and have been writing poems and letters in role as the book character.
In Maths we have been looking at place value and ordering and comparing numbers up to 10,000,000.
In Science with Mrs Fenner, the class started the topic ‘electricity’. They looked at what electricity was, and what ‘static’ electricity is and also being aware of the dangers of electricity and how to be safe.
In DT we have started to think about making our Roman Catapults. These need careful planning and measuring to ensure they work correctly. The class have been carefully designing and drawing their sketches.
We have some very exciting events coming up over the next few weeks, starting with our first trip on Thursday. We will be visiting the Roman Baths in Welwyn and then travelling to Mill Green Museum in Hatfield to look at artifacts and play Roman games. Please send a coat on Thursday, even if the weather if nice as the Roman baths are underground and very cold! All the children in Weasels class have asked for a packed lunch from home so please remember to send this with the children.
We are setting the class up with homework diaries. Usually these are only used in secondary school but we felt this will give the children the responsibility to manage their own homework and remind themselves what homework they have. Hopefully these arrive by Monday.
