The world around us
This week Cuckoos class started a new topic ‘ All Around Us’ and have been using Ordnance Survey Maps to identify a range of phyiscal and human features in the local area and the areas where we live.
As it was Earth Day on Tuesday, we looked at what we can do to look after the environment. The children expressed they wanted to look after it for their generation and future generations. They have come up with excellent ways as to how they can do this.
In English, we have started a new book “The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers”. This looks at grousome stories from around the world and the class recognised other familiar fairy tales from the stories read. These are some of the original fairytales from before they had a ‘happily ever after’ ending. We turned off the lights and used a torch to ensure the story was more atmospheric. Some of our drawings are shown below.
In Maths, we have been comparing decimals to fractions and all the children have worked extremely hard in maths this week.
In PE we have started new units. The class will be playing rounders with Mrs Lee and cricket with Mr Farooq. Please remind your child to have the correct PE kit on Tuesdays and Thursadays. Remember: Use one hand for a rounders bat and two hands for a cricket bat.
To start our Science topic, we will be visiting the Science Museum on Wednesday 30th April. We will be travelling by train to South Kensington. Please remember to pack a packed lunch and water bottle for the trip and put these in a back pack. The children will need to carry these all day. All children in Cuckoos class have said they wish to bring a packed lunch from home, so I have not ordered any school lunches for them.
