We focused on reading digital clocks – looking at hours, minutes and seconds. The children used timers to record how long it took each person to run. They are beginning to understand that a shorter time means the child was quicker.
This week Woodpeckers worked as detectives trying to discover what had happened to 4 different plants to stop them growing.
They look at the evidence (stem colour, is the stem straight or bent, does the soil look dry, what colour is the soil) to work out what the plant is missing.
They then discussed what plants need to survive and created posters.
During English, the class wrote and created a book about King Arthur and their own knight adventures, and recapped some mathematical topics, including fractions, decimals and time.
They have also made paintings based on the style of Banksy and Monet.
This week Robin class went out and did litter picking around the school. The children enjoyed it so much they asked if they could do it again the following day and the next school year. It would be a nice idea to do it over the summer holidays in your local community.
In English we are following the story of the peppered moth. The world is changing. How will this species evolve to survive? Today we used our thesaurus skills to extend our vocabulary and describe the changed environment.
In maths we are revising our addition and subtraction skills with a focus on the language used in question.
This week, the children worked hard on their Art pieces – collages inspired by Megan Coyle who uses recycled paper in her work.
We will finish them off next week.
Please continue to bring in recycled items for junk modelling – cereal boxes, cardboard tubes, yoghurt pots etc.
Next week it is our trip – Hazard Alley – on Wednesday 2nd July. It will be a great day!

Our butterflies have begun to emerge from their cocoons
In science we have been identifying animals and matching them to their offspring.
Some year 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed visiting the Victoria and Albert Museum to be part of a drama project run by ‘D-Live’. They enjoyed visiting a new exhibition called ‘Design and Disability’. They then drew their favourite piece, before encoporating it into a short play which they performed for another Deaf school.
They enjoyed the warm weather and the opportunity to dip their feet in the pool.
Today in maths the children were split into 2 teams, they had to work together in order to solve different maths problems and figure out the code to unlock the icebox.
